Artist in Residence Katharina Löffler explores connection through dance
July 2, 2025

As part of her Magic Carpets residency in Innsbruck, Katharina Löffler invites women and FLINTA individuals from all generations to co-create a shared, creative space for dance exploration.

From September 13 to October 4, a collective process will happen at Stadtteiltreff Wilten and openspace.innsbruck, combining contemporary dance, improvisation, and reflection. The starting point will be questions about physical encounter, closeness, and the visible and invisible threads that are connecting our neighborhoods. Through intensive collective research, discussions, and movement-based practices, the group will develop a performative mosaic to be presented in public on October 4 as part of the Stadtteiltag Wilten. The project aims to create spaces for feminist exchange, artistic freedom, and mutual empowerment.

Anyone curious to learn more is warmly invited to join an introductory workshop on Monday, July 7, either from 11 am–1 pm or 6–8 pm, to get to know Katha’s approach and explore whether they would like to participate in the more in-depth workshop series in autumn. Participation is free of charge; registration via openspace.innsbruck media accounts / danijela.tonkovic@gmail.com / +436769418881 is required. No prior experience is necessary – an interest in movement, experimentation, and shared exploration is all you need.

Katharina Löffler (*1998, Austria, she/they) works internationally as a freelance dancer, performer, and dance facilitator. She graduated from Tanz-Zentrale Leipzig, Área dansa i creació in Barcelona, and Laboratorio Escuela Theatre School. In her artistic practice, she seeks to rethink the way we relate to our bodies, to each-other and to our natural environment, inviting others to discover with curiosity endless possibilities of movement together.

She is deepening and expanding her research and work in contemporary dance and performance, contact and solo improvisation, movement, and (inclusive) dance pedagogy.

Nature has been a strong influence in Katharinas artistic research. Through facilitating group experiences in dance, she felt the urge to create community-based performance art. The transformative qualities of nature have served as a lasting source of inspiration, and in her work with groups, she witnessed these transformative powers come alive and multiply. Katharina is inspired by the shared potential of dance, community, and nature — and sees this connection as her main direction and motivation in the field of dance and art.
